DOUG DICKMANN, 17U Gold

Doug began playing volleyball and has been coaching 30 years. He coached on the adult level for Voodoo, Smashing Pumpkins, and Loose Cannons, where he was also the team representative. In 2004, Doug began offering private skills clinics and lessons for youth players. In 2008 and 2009, Doug coached 14U and 15U Girls with St. Louis Metro. Then from 2010-12, he moved into the High Performance program, coaching youth girls. Doug was actively involved in the “train the trainer” methodology, mentoring and developing younger coaches. He joined ELITE VBC in 2013.

Volleyball was a sport Doug picked up after playing professional baseball. He attended St. Mary’s High School, playing baseball and football. His high school honors included All Metro-football player and All-Metro, All-City, and All-State Baseball player his junior year and senior years. Doug was drafted in the 7th round by the Philadelphia Phillies in their ’71 summer draft. Doug chose to continue his education and played baseball at Meramec College where he started as their catcher and was named All-Conference, All-Regional, and All-American both his freshman and sophomore years. In 1973, he walked on with the Oakland A’s Farm Team and reached Triple A level before returning to St. Louis to complete his engineering training at SLU. To this day, Doug can be seen on fast pitch softball fields across the country. In 2006, he was inducted into the Missouri Fast Pitch ASA Softball Hall of Fame.

In 1988, Doug began his volleyball career playing at the Open/A level. He has played with several teams during the last 28 years and continues to play on the senior circuit at the Gold level.

Doug has four grown children who are all active with sports and last year welcomed his first grandchild. He and his wife Robin reside in Imperial. Doug tried to retire once and decided retirement wasn’t for him. He is the owner of Wellspring, LLC, a manufacturer’s rep agency and stocking distributor of industrial equipment and supplies.

Doug enjoys giving back, whether that’s on the volleyball court, softball field, or in his role as Bible Chaplain for the Gateway Grizzlies Baseball Team.
